Experience

Matt Legg is an attorney at Baird Mandalas Brockstedt & Federico, LLC with extensive experience in public entity litigation and environmental litigation, as well as a variety of other mass tort and class action matters.

In addition to representing public entities and individuals in mass tort and class action litigation, Matt is a VA-accredited attorney, meaning he can prepare, present, and prosecute claims for veterans’ benefits before Veterans Affairs.

Matt has been recognized as a “Rising Star” by SuperLawyers and as a part of the National Trial Lawyers “Top 40 Under 40”.

Public Client Litigation

  • Representation of more than 80 school districts in litigation seeking to hold social media companies responsible for the student mental health crisis caused by social media addiction, including representation of two bellwether Plaintiffs. In re: Social Media Adolescent Addiction/Personal Injury Products Liability Litigation (MDL No. 3047).
  • Representation of more that 60 school districts in litigation against the e-cigarette manufacturer JUUL, resulting in more than $60 million in settlement to clients. In re: Juul Labs, Inc. Marketing, Sales Practices & Products Liability Litigation (MDL No. 2913).
  • Representation of more than 40 cities and counties in Florida, South Carolina and Kentucky in litigation against opioid manufacturers and distributors. In re: National Prescription Opiate Litigation (MDL No. 2084).
  • Is currently investigating potential claims against the manufacturers and pharmacy benefit managers nationwide who have wrongfully increased the price of insulin to the detriment of government entities. In re: Insulin Pricing Litigation (MDL No. 3080).

Environmental Litigation

  • Representation of individuals in landmark environmental case against poultry processing giant Mountaire. For close to two decades, the company had violated its permits by disposing of wastewater containing excessive nitrates, damaging the region and causing health problems to its residents. The historic $205 million settlement was the largest resolution of nitrate groundwater contamination in history.
  •  Ongoing representation of residents impacted by air pollution from a paper mill in Fort Mill, South Carolina.
  • Ongoing representation of residents in Elkton, Maryland impacted by PFAS exposure.

Prior to joining BMBF, Matt was a member of the University of Maryland Football Commission that was tasked with investigating the culture of the school’s football program after the death of Jordan McNair.

Matt received his undergraduate degree in English and Classics from Bowdoin College, and his Juris Doctor from the University of Maryland School of Law.
